Void Chair

Directed by: Xavi Miralles

Void Chair is a narrative film I shot with director Xavi Miralles at Totem Producciones, and it was one of those projects where the technical choices felt inseparable from the story itself. We locked in the Black Magic Production Camera 4K on Canon L Series glass, framed everything in 2.35, and captured to Apple ProRes 422 to keep the digital negative clean and workable in post. The aspect ratio gave us that cinematic breathing room the script demanded, and the Black Magic sensor handled the tonal range beautifully without fighting us. Working with my first AC Violeta Octavio and gaffer Martí Palazón, we built a lighting approach that served the material rather than decorated it. Art direction from Englys Acconciagioco was precise, and having that clarity on set meant we could focus on the actual cinematography instead of problem-solving design decisions. Shot in Barcelona with a crew that understood the difference between looking good and looking right.
