Shoot on Alexa Mini
with Kowa Anamorphics
Destellos
Directed by: Xavi Miralles
Destellos is a narrative short I shot with director Xavi Miralles at Totem, and we went full anamorphic for it, running Kowa glass on an Alexa Mini. There's something about anamorphic that just forces you to think differently about composition, especially in intimate scenes where you're working close to faces. The horizontal stretch, the flare characteristics, the way it renders bokeh, it all becomes part of the storytelling rather than just a look you're applying. We leaned into that. The Alexa Mini gave us the flexibility to move quickly without sacrificing image quality, which mattered because Xavi had a clear vision for pacing and we needed to keep momentum through longer takes. It's the kind of project where the technical choices aren't separate from the creative ones, they're the same conversation.
