From the Dusty Window Pane

Directed by: Alejandro H. Madrid

I shot this narrative on 35mm Kodak Vision 3 5219 through Zeiss Planar lenses, running it on an Arriflex 435 at 1.78 aspect ratio. Directing my own work meant I could push the camera into uncomfortable places, literally and figuratively, treating the frame like a character that had to earn its presence. The story lives in those dusty window panes, in the grain of the stock, in the way light refuses to cooperate. I wasn't interested in making it pretty, just honest. Working with 35mm meant every choice mattered because you can't undo it in post, and that constraint forced better decisions on set. The negative holds detail in ways digital never quite manages, especially in the shadows where most of the story actually happens.
